We regularly have the pleasure of welcoming gorgeous Persian cats to our different Longcroft locations. While they’re famously sweet-natured and affectionate, Persians also come with a long list of specific care requirements. At Longcroft we tailor our guests’ care to meet these unique needs …
Known for their luxurious coats, flat faces and regal charm, Persian kitties are some of the most visually striking guests we welcome. But beneath the fluff is a loving, often dog-like personality that thrives on gentle companionship and routine.
Coat Care
Persians have exceptionally dense, long double coats that can mat very easily if not properly maintained. We know that many Persian owners will groom their kitties daily at home. So, at Longcroft, we continue this routine: we provide daily coat maintenance and can help to manage the coats of any kitties who arrive with tangles or matting. We’ll always check with owners what level of grooming kitties are used to, to ensure they remain relaxed and comfortable during their stay.
Eye Care
Due to their brachycephalic (flat-faced) structure, Persians frequently experience tear staining and weepy eyes. This can build up and lead to staining or skin irritation if not cleaned regularly. During their stay at Longcroft, Persian cats will receive gentle daily care to maintain the delicate eye area.
Diet
Persians are generally quite small cats and can be prone to sensitive digestion – so a ‘little and often’ feeding regime, with a good quality slightly sensitive diet, is often what suits them best. We will always discuss your Persian’s dietary requirements with you prior to their stay – to ensure continuity with their usual diet. We will stick precisely to any feeding routines from home and regularly monitor cats’ appetite and stools to make sure they are happy and healthy.
Temperament
Most Persians are gentle, calm and quietly attached to their humans. They may not demand constant attention, but they love gentle company, head rubs, and soft verbal interaction. Whenever one of our Persian guests checks in to one of our hotels, we will ask the owner to tell us all about their particular cat’s personality and preferences. We aim to provide a routine and regular interactions that will make your cat feel truly at home and at their most relaxed in our care.
Looking after a Persian kitty is about providing routine, gentleness and attention to detail for every guest. These beautiful, loving souls may come with a high-maintenance care routine, but we are lucky enough to see how they repay that tenfold, with their incredible loyalty, calm affection and those signature adorable faces!
