Keeping Your Cat Cool and Comfortable This Summer

Longcroft Cats Hot Weather Guide

Summer has arrived, and if your cat is staying with us during a warm spell, we want you to know exactly what that looks like in practice.

Spoiler alert: they are in very good hands!

Built for comfort from the ground up

Our hotels are purpose-built cat hotel buildings, constructed in white UPVC which is naturally heat reflective, with gold standard heat reflective roofing systems throughout. We did not stumble into this. These buildings were specified with year-round comfort in mind, and warm weather is something our suites handle beautifully.

With just six to eight suites per hotel, your cat is never lost in a large facility. Our boutique model means a genuinely high ratio of human attention to guests, and that matters particularly in summer when we are keeping a closer eye on our guests.

Who needs a little extra attention

Our teams know their guests. Kittens, senior cats and brachycephalic breeds, including Persians, Exotic Shorthairs, Himalayans and British Shorthairs, all receive enhanced supervision during warmer periods. Brachycephalic cats have naturally shorter airways which can make temperature regulation a little more demanding, and our experienced teams understand exactly what to look for and how to respond.

What warm weather care looks like in our hotels

Water is refreshed more frequently than usual throughout the day. Some locations use water fountains, as the gentle movement keeps cats curious and the charcoal filtering reduces the chlorine taste that many cats find off-putting.

Frozen enrichment is a firm summer favourite. A Lick-e-Lix popped in the freezer and served like a lolly, or wet food on a lick mat, goes down extremely well and quietly boosts fluid intake at the same time. Our cats tend to be very enthusiastic about this particular aspect of summer!

We also have to hand Purina Pro Plan HydraCare, a nutrient-enriched liquid supplement served alongside normal food and water. Research shows cats taking HydraCare consume around 50% more fluid overall than those on water alone. It is particularly useful for dry-fed cats, older guests and lighter drinkers, and we offer it to our all-inclusive guests where we feel it would benefit them.

The short version

Your cat will be cool, hydrated, well observed and thoroughly looked after. That is what we are here for, and it is what our teams do every single day.

If you have any specific concerns about your cat’s needs during warmer weather, just mention it at check-in and we will make sure your cat gets exactly the right care.
