Built for the cold, happy anywhere

Siberians come from a working cat heritage in Russia, bred to survive proper winters, and it shows. Their triple layered coat, undercoat, awn hair and guard hair, gives them a thick, weatherproof look that’s more practical than it seems. Underneath all that fluff is a genuinely sturdy, muscular cat built for comfort rather than fuss.

They moult with the seasons rather than gradually, so if your Siberian’s coat seems to be having a moment during their stay, that’s entirely normal and our team knows exactly how to manage it.

The “hypoallergenic” cat, sort of

Siberians have a reputation for being kinder to allergy sufferers, largely because many produce less of the protein most commonly responsible for cat allergies. It’s not a guarantee, every cat and every allergy is different, but it’s one of the reasons Siberians turn up in households where allergies have ruled out other breeds in the past.

More dog than cat, in the best way

Ask anyone who owns one and they’ll tell you the same thing: Siberians behave a bit like dogs. Playful, sociable and often fascinated by water, many Siberians will happily sit and watch a running tap, paw at a water fountain, or investigate a bowl with far more enthusiasm than a simple drink requires. Our water fountains tend to go down particularly well with this breed, for exactly that reason.

They’re also famously slow to grow up. A Siberian can take three to five years to fully mature, so don’t be surprised if yours still has kitten energy well into adulthood. It’s part of the charm.

A close bond with their people

Siberians are known for attaching strongly to their household, often to one person in particular, and they can find time apart a little harder than more independent breeds.
