If you share your home with a Maine Coon, or you’re thinking about welcoming one, you’ll know they don’t so much walk into a room as arrive in it. Tufted ears, a lion’s ruff, a tail like a feather duster and a little chirp to say hello. A stay at Longcroft is no exception.
The Maine Coon is the largest domestic breed recognised by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, and one of the UK’s most popular pedigrees. One, Barivel, has even held the world record for the longest cat at 120cm from nose to tail tip. Yours may be a little more modest, but probably not by much.
Big cats need a little planning, and our teams sort it before your Maine Coon arrives: generous litter trays, beds built for a proper sprawl, a solid scratch post and bowls that stay put.
For such a large cat, the Maine Coon has a surprisingly dainty voice. Many skip the meow entirely and chat in soft chirps and trills instead. It’s usually hello, sometimes “where’s my dinner”, and always adorable.
Maine Coons come from the snowy state of Maine, and their coat shows it: a dense undercoat under a long, glossy, waterproof top coat. It’s more manageable than it looks, but it does like to tangle in the usual places, behind the ears, under the arms and around those fluffy trousers. Regular, gentle grooming is part of every Maine Coon’s stay with us, and plenty come to rather enjoy it.
Easy going, affectionate and always up for a game, Maine Coons like to be involved. Expect yours to follow us around the suite, supervise every visit and pounce on a waggler with far more enthusiasm than dignity.
Your Maine Coon will chirp hello at every visit, sprawl across their bed in style, and charm every single one of us along the way.
If your Maine Coon has any particular habits or quirks we should know about, just mention them at check-in and we will cater to their every whim!
